PNR Community Service Team accomplished 2 great events in one day

Operation Backpacks:

Pleasanton North Rotary hosted a Backpack drive benefitting the children of Camp Parks. Together we donated and packed 85 backpacks filled with much needed school supplies.

“Operation Backpack" is a program in which we (PNR) sponsor school-age children, providing backpacks filled with school supplies to these children for their upcoming school year. There is more of a need than ever because of the ongoing complexities surrounding COVID-19 and the high cost of living in the Bay Area. The PNR Community Service Team committed our club to sponsoring 50 children at Camp Parks BUT because of the strong support of club members we ended up able to sponsor 85 children with back-to-school supplies. Dale, Tami, Viviana, Larry packed the backpacks Thursday evening at the Carrillo’s home and we delivered the backpacks and school supply donations on Friday morning to Camp Parks. This will help to equip these military children for the 2021-2022 school year.

25 of our PNR club members helped to made Operation Backpack a huge success!!!

The backpacks were delivered to Camp Parks in Dublin, California, supporting their annual Back-To-School Information Fair on August 6.

Together, we exceeded our goal of 50 backpacks with 85 backpacks for children from Pre-K to 12th grade.

Thanks you all very much for supporting our local military families, and for the kids whose school lives will be positively uplifted and enhanced.

Our PNR Community Service Team consist of the awesome team of President Eddie Munster, Mrs. President Vivi, President Swabbie Tami, Lardog and community service lead Dale Carrillo!

Kids Against Hunger:

After the Backpacks drop-off, 25 PNR club members along with friends and two other Rotary Clubs went to pack meals for Kids Against Hunger. The team packed 10,368 meals, an all time high for our club.

Club members who participated pulled up their sleeves and joined in some hands-on charity work! Other rotary clubs participated from Dublin and Pleasanton. An added bonus was the presence of four club past and present presidents, Michael Cherman, Tami Hennegan, Angelika Voss Quinn (Livermore Valley Rotary) and Bill Evans (Downtown Pleasanton Rotary). They joined us as we packed food for Kids Against Hunger, Friday, August 6th at 2PM. The children needed us and we showed up!

Kids Against Hunger-Bay Area packages and ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing countries and in disaster situations, as well as feeding hungry children in the United States, a more recent situation exacerbated by COVID.

This is accomplished by mobilizing the compassion and energy of children, teens, and adults on behalf of needy children around the world. We seek to end the literal hunger of deprived children who receive the food, and to satisfy a hunger we all feel - a hunger to make a difference.

These two events proved to be a very enriching, fun Friday with great people!
